Max Dominates in the Wet

It’s been a while since we had an update on the website and there has been lots going on in the background with class and team changes. Max is now settled in to his new team and proud to be part of M-Sport Kart Team for the 2022 season. This year sees Max move up to the Mini Max class and racing against other drivers in the 11-13yrs age group. The new class uses a full size kart, the same as the seniors and is capable of 72mph.

Max was racing in Dorset at Clay Pigeon Raceway at the weekend for round 3 of the BKC Championship. Last week was Sats week at school, so he had to miss Friday testing in order to sit his last exam.

Despite missing a days testing, he hit the track running on Saturday morning and was 6 tenths faster than the rest of the field in the first session. From there he worked on the setup with the team and was in a good place by the time it came to qualifying. Qualifying was probably the closest we have even seen with the top 5 separated by just 12 thousandths of a second, with max coming out on top, earning pole for the heat 1.

Qualifying – P1 🥇

Heat 1 – P1 🥇

Heat 2 – P1 🥇

Heat 3 – P4

Heat 1 on Saturday and heat 2 on Sunday were hard fought with Cameron, finishing 0.093 seconds apart in the first race and 0.104 apart in the second, both times with team mate Josh just behind.

Heat 3 was a different story. It had rained and it looking like the circuit was still going to be wet, but drying quickly. We went with the cautious approach and stayed on wets. In hindsight it was the wrong decision, but that’s racing and Max held on to P4 to be the first of the drivers using wets to cross the line.

Final – P1 🥇

After a great set of results, Max had put it on pole for the final. The heavens had opened again before the start and Max was excited to get on track. As the lights went out the karts disappeared around the corner and when they came back around again, Max was out front with a gaggle of karts behind him. From there he just got quicker and quicker pulling away from the pack. At the end of the 15 laps he crossed the line to take the win by 7.394 seconds!!

It’s Max’s first win of the year, his first in the new class and the first with his new team Msport kart Racing team. Congrats to his teammate Jacob B on taking the win in Honda Cadets, making it a double win for the team 🥳

The atmosphere in the team is really helping Max get the best out of himself. Thanks for Keiran for his guidance and Jordan at Force for the power, which for the second year in a row are helping Max achieve these wins.
